Elmo Gerald Jeremiah

Elmo Gerald Jeremiah, 81, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:15 A.M., Monday, August 4, 2003 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Elmo worked as a superintendent with CIPS in Du Quoin and retired in 1987.  He served with the U.S. Army Engineers in Europe as First Sargent from 1943 until 1946 and he retired as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Infantry in December 1966.  Elmo was a lifetime member of Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin VFW, an apprentice of Tamaroa Masonic Lodge, and Past Commander of District 15 VFW in Marion.
He was born July 22, 1922 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Vernon and Nellie (Brayfield) Jeremiah.
He married Theresa Dunn on December 4, 1948 at Mayfield, Kentucky and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one daughter - Sandy Degler and husband Rick of Du Quoin, one son - Billy Lavern Jeremiah and wife Paula of Pinckneyville, two grandsons - Scott Loyd and wife Kimberly and Eric Ramsey, all of Du Quoin, step granddaughters - Amy and Kelly Wildermuth of Pinckneyville, great granddaughter - Elizabeth Marie Loyd of Du Quoin, step great grandsoon - Kelton David Linze of Pinckneyville, one sister - Virginia Heiple of DeSoto, IL, and one sister-in-law - Jean Jeremiah of Peoria, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdad - Clarence Buckles, and two brothers - George and Vern.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 7, 2003 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Jerry Dunn officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Military graveside rites were conducted by Du Quoin American Legion.
Interment was in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
